Price. The official HighLevel MCP is free with an account you already pay for. Real Wave is not free and there is no free plan.
First party. HighLevel's own server will never be a third party in your stack, will never change hands, and cannot be discontinued by anyone other than HighLevel. Real Wave carries vendor risk.
Source you can read. The community servers are open source. You can read every line, fork it, and keep running your fork. Real Wave is closed source and hosted.
Data path. A self hosted community server keeps traffic between your own machine and GoHighLevel. Real Wave sits in the middle by design. If that trade is unacceptable, self host.
Breadth outside GoHighLevel. If your problem spans twenty systems that are not GoHighLevel, n8n and Make do that and an MCP server does not.
Learning value. If the goal is to understand MCP rather than to ship, a hosted product teaches you nothing. Clone a repo instead.
